Fabric care guide
How to keep chikankari, silk, velvet, net and embellished pieces looking their best.
Made-to-order pieces deserve a little care. Check the fabric on your product page, then follow the tips below. When in doubt, dry clean.
Chikankari
- Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent.
- Don’t wring; press the water out in a towel.
- Dry in the shade and iron on the reverse side.
Organza
- Dry clean for the best result.
- Steam or iron on low heat with a cloth between.
- Store on a padded hanger so the layers don’t crush.
Net
- Hand wash gently in cold water, or dry clean if embellished.
- Keep away from jewellery and zips that can snag.
- Dry flat in the shade.
Raw silk
- Dry clean only.
- Water can leave marks, so blot spills straight away.
- Iron on the reverse on a silk setting.
Velvet
- Dry clean only.
- Steam to lift creases; don’t press the pile flat.
- Hang to store, with space around it.
Chiffon
- Hand wash gently in cold water.
- Roll in a towel to dry, then hang in the shade.
- Iron on low heat.
Lawn and cotton
- Wash inside out on a gentle, cold cycle.
- Wash bright colours separately the first few times.
- Dry in the shade so colours stay bright.
Banarsi
- Dry clean only.
- Fold with muslin between the folds and refold now and then.
- Keep zari away from damp.
Sequins, pearls and heavy embroidery
- Dry clean only.
- Store flat or folded in a cotton bag; heavy pieces stretch on hangers.
- Iron from the reverse, never over the work.
Storing your pieces
- Keep pieces in breathable cotton or muslin bags, never plastic.
- Store heavy and embellished pieces folded flat so they don’t stretch.
- Air them out after every wear before putting them away.
